Mystery Trip - the mystery revealed...St Andrews

11th February 2012

Not Brussels, not Inverness, not even Kilmarnock but St Andrews!

We arrrived more or less on time in spite of a delay in Dunfermline with the Rangers - Dunfermline game about to start. Nearly left one Scout behind at the Dunfermline bus station but otherwise no excitement.

We are staying in the 8th Fife (St Andrews) scout hall which overlooks the bay just beside the castle. We are pretty sure its scenic qualities have escaped most of the party but it is quite spectacular.

A short break to eat sandwiches and have a drink and then off to West Sands to meet a Countryside Ranger from the Fife Countryside Trust.

I don't imagine you would have been thinking that your offspring would be re-planting dune grass on the West Sands on a Saturday afternoon to help resist dune erosion but this was the case. Photographs to prove it. Everyone got into the spirit and we were able to replant three areas of the dunes. Of course sunshine and no rain, coupled with a spectacular beach, really helped!

And just to prove we are in St Andrews.......

We're now back at the Scout Hall, after a brief visit to the shops, ready for a hearty meal cooked by our redoubtable Cook Team. Games tonight followed by a Hall Campfire (simulated) and sleep (possibly).
