  • Hogmanay Back Pack and Happy New Year!

    31st December 2012

Hogmanay Back Pack and a Happy New Year! blog post

May I wish all our Young People, their parents and grandparents, and our 145th Leaders a very Happy and Prosperous New Year.

The Bag Pack today was a great success and we thank all the Cubs, Scouts and Explorers who turned out to support this. Big thanks to our leaders who supervised the day.

A Grand total of £2116.52! Well done everyone!

This will go towards the 2014 Italy trip. You have already had a glimpse of the scenery from the picture on the website.

Summer Camp in Italy in 2014 (27th June  - 5th July)

We have made a provisional booking with Acorn Travel Group for Villeneuve. The Acorn 'Village' Centre nestles in the shadow of Mont Blanc, surrounded by the splendour of the Gran Paradiso National Park, a lake, alpine river and abundant trees. The beautiful medieval town of Aosta is only seven miles away.

    Huge choice of activities, including:-

Abseiling, Raft Building, High Ropes, Orienteering, Gorge Scramble, Canoeing, Kayaking, Rock Climbing, Fencing, Archery, Squeezing, White Water Rafting, Hill Walking

We will be camping in our own secure 'Village' with qualified instructors for all the activities, along with all meals provided including the cooking!

All our Scout Network, Explorers and Scouts (aged 10 ½ years + at the time of the Camp) can come.

This will include youngsters in Cubs now, who will be in Scouts by 2014.

Information meeting for you & your parents

Friday January 18th at 7:30 pm in the Hall.

    See you all there.

  • Winter Update

    6th December 2012

    4th December 2012

A short note as we make the run up to Christmas and New Year.

The Sainsbury Bag Pack was a great success and we thank all the scouts and cubs who turned up to support this. Big thanks to Lesley Mackay who arranged it and spent the most part of that weekend supervising the Bag Pack.

Remembrance Sunday parade was very well supported with 44 Beavers Cubs, Scouts and Explorers and Leaders in attendance. Readers for the lessons were recruited from all sections and did very well, considering the text was quite difficult!

Here is a group photo from the day, courtesy of Daniel Garry.

The feedback on the AGM I have had from meeting parents collecting their youngsters at recent group nights was very positive. You liked seeing your youngsters in action and receiving their badges and awards.

Now this is where you can play your part..............

Race Night on the 17th November was financially OK but a dismal failure. Only five parents turned up to support it. We Leaders do need the oxygen of parental support. Your attendance at Fund Raisers and other social events helps us to a) get to know you b) you to get to know us and therefore between us to understand what your children require and what we think Scouting can do to help.

We are going to arrange a meeting for parents in the New Year when you can tell us what we should be doing to get more of your support. We need your support. Please attend.

  • Group Quiz night

    20th April 2012

    Group Quiz night blog post

    20th April 2012

Easter over already! Here we are already thinking about summer camps etc., and for some unfortunates, the exam season is suddenly very close.  Be very afraid.

What is happening in the Group?

The Beavers are having a Sleepover on Friday 27th April.

The Group Quiz night is on Saturday 28th April. Tickets at £5 each are being distributed. Do you have yours yet? Some parents have asked if they can bring their children along. This is Ok as we understand sometimes babysitting is difficult to arrange.

We are hoping for a good turnout. The Group Executive has put a lot of effort into arranging this and we do count on your support.
